School or Prison? At Wyoming Valley West there have been too many disruptions that have given our school a negative reputation. Threats of violence were all too common. These threats affected many people involved in theschool district. They similarly affected the police officers that put their lives on the line to come into a building with a possible bomb inside. My senior year stands out among the rest. approach shot into my senior year of high school, I hoped that I would have a nice, quiet, enjoyable, and memorable year. However, it ended up being the worst year ofmy four historic period in high school. Within the stretch of a week and a half, there were four bomb threats made at our school. On the days of to each one threat there was a note found in the girls lavatory. The first note was found on a Friday afternoon after school was dismissed. I did not hear about it untilthe following Monday. On that day, I was sitting in Law class like any other Monday morn ing. It wasaround 1030 A.M., when the principal of the school, Mr. DeRemer, spoke over the loud speaker. He announced that the building was being evacuated. Every student had to immediately leave the building in an dandy fashion and report directly to his or her bus. Those students who drove to school were toleave their vehicles behind. At the time, no one was sure what was happening. When I got home that afternoon, I turned on the television to see if there was anything on the newsMany of the local news stations were at the school, and they reported that there had been a bombthreat. This scared me. It had been only a holy ten months since the tragedy in Littleton, Colorado atColumbine High School. Even though I knew that it was most likely somebody just playing games, I stillhad to guess of the worst. We were allowed to return to the school that evening to pick up our cars. He expresses his ideas about the many subjects through the book through his position as the novels narrator. Also, as the book progresses, so does Genes maturity. The first chapter of A Separate Peace establishes the character Gene Forrester, who in actuality is a portrayal of John Knowles himself, according to a fresh interview. In this establishment of the main character, Gene sets his place as a grown up and fully matured man, looking back on an hap when he was only sixteen years old. He vividly describes Devon High School as he currently saw, and as he remembered from the days of his past. The definition provided in this chapter proves to the reader that in the events following this soliloquy, a young character will emerge, and will grow into the man they just read about. In Chapter cardinal and Three, Gene d evelops a close bond with his roommate Finny. However, Gene, develops a sheer envy for Finny, and acknowledges it as the truth. He is extremely envious of the methods in which Finny uses to escape his irregular actions and his popularity. He doctors himself in self-assurance, by repeatedly telling himself over and over again that having a best friend like Finny is a compliment and should be looked at as an achievement. However, this excuse is transparent of Genes maturity at this point, portraying a very young, foolish, and selfish young man. It later leads to inner conflict inner(a) Gene. The realization that the mind controls the mental growth is very strong throughout the full-page book, considering the very immature outlook Gene took upon Finny and the events involving Finny, which evolve into carefully thought out remorse that grows into much needed maturity.
